Why does everything seem so bland?

The young lion looked around as the sounds of the carnival filled his ears; one particularly where people were screaming at the top of their lungs while on a ride that seemed to definitely induce such reaction. The ride consisted of them being strapped to a chair and a spell that magically made the chairs disappeared, telling them they that the straps were their only safety now. Then another spell to temporarily block their line of sight (that had the same effect for a good blindfold) so as to make the experience even more suspenseful. Now only left with the reassurance that the straps were the only one that had them, they were slowly pulled up and everyone in could feel and hear each other but couldn't see. After what seemed like half an hour (but really, it was a few seconds) the apparatus stopped as they reached the peak. Then, without warning, a drop straight down and the Gryffindor observed for it to be quite quick than he anticipated, postulating the ride to be enchanted to stop air resistance from happening so as to induce a quicker drop. Sure enough, the screams (even the guys in the ride) were heard and within a matter of seconds, it was done. The spell for the seats and the temporary blindfolding finished and the riders were released as the new set of people experience the sensation again.

It was odd how the young man paid attention to the ride as everything else seemed to just be a normal ride, seeing he had some knowledge in the muggle world. After all, having parents that were both half-born wizarding parents was an asset for him, not a hindrance. Sure, he was and faces contention amongst pureblood elitists, but the Gryffindor knew how to use his words and use extra special words when he needed to defend himself. Physical fights were not one for him as physical prowess could not determine anything else rather than how strong one is, physically. When it came to words and opinions though, this he would take on, almost like a wizard politician and a quiet activist, he would strongly share his opinions, but once again being kind and respectful of others. It was a motherly endowment that he inherited and promised to himself that he would not stoop low to those who attacked him on such a base arguments.

A throng of students came from behind him, some walking in pairs as lovers or in groups of three or more for a band of friends to accompany them to the festivities the school had held for them and for everyone in it. Quinlan thought as well that he saw some professors wandering around enjoying their time whilst making sure not much mischief goes on at the carnival.

"What am I even doing here?" the lion spoke quietly to himself. Was he just wasting his time? Didn't he have other things to do? The fifth year wasn't feeling like himself lately. There was a lack of interest in what he was doing. Almost like when people would get some form of mid-life crisis, but for such a young student like him? He shook his head in an attempt to override his mind to redirect his thoughts somewhere else but there was an oddly empty feeling brooding inside the Gryffindor and he didn't know why it was so. Taking a deep breath in, he took a look around, repeatedly doing a 360 of the vicinity. Silliness he thought, but it was better than focusing on something he felt like he had no power over.

Alaric had done everything. At least, that's what it felt like. He'd eaten nearly everything he managed to get his hands on , ridden all the rides, gotten trapped in the flower maze, accidentally stumbled upon two seventh years kissing (a disgusting sight), and mercilessly judged the quality of everyone's costumes. Even his giantess of an energy potion fueled sister had tapped out and headed back to her common room, but Alaric wasn't quite ready to call it a night. It was still so early! Even if he did feel like there was nothing left to do. Surely there was at least one interesting thing happening.

With a light in his eyes that his family would have known meant lock-Alaric-in-his-room-for-everyone's-sake, the tall boy surveyed the grounds before him. More canoodling, he noticed, as well as a lot of laughing and eating - which he'd done already (minus the canoodling, unless getting his teeth stuck on a candied apple counted). Then, as if lit up by the fates themselves, he spotted an older boy looking absolutely jaded. He watched as the other boy obviously searched for something. And then did it again. And again. Despite the repeated searches, he didn't seem to actually be moving. Still, he was quite close to one of the more interesting rides Alaric had been on. Maybe he was looking for someone to ride it with? Maybe he was intimidated by it? That could be a fun emotion to try to manipulate. Alaric beamed, and headed towards the other boy.

"Wicked, isn't it?" He opened with, stepping up next to his victim new friend with a pointed bounce. He pointed to the chair ride with a long-fingered hand. "My sister actually invented the charm that works that ride. Most people don't know that - she keeps it a bit hush-hush because most people wouldn't want to trust their lives to an 11-year-old's made up charm, and yeah, a kid got thrown off it earlier but... anyway, want to have a go?" He grinned toothily, gray eyes glinting.

Amidst the voices, Quinlan was hearing so many conversations with the throngs coming in and dispersing through the carnival. There was one talking about how the dragon boat race seemed like a rowing race but just enchanted, which to him seemed plausible. Another one from a couple, thinking of where to canoodle after, or maybe even somewhere dark or private where they wouldn't be seen; making his left eyebrow rise up, mentally questioning of why the two were even there until a voice broke through the conversation.

The lion's head turned towards it, seeing a rather fair looking student, clearly a younger one for that matter. He started explaining about the ride that he seemed to have observed from afar that Quinlan had been looking at. True, it had been interesting, but the kid really wasn't going to get the lion by saying something absurd that his sister had invented the charm as to how the ride worked. An 11-year old? It sure sounded weird. Yet the Gryffindor wouldn't bring himself to slam words to the prankster before him. He was probably just wanting to go and do something fun. The younger kid before him, noticing that he was sporting a rather dark attire for a carnival. 'Hm? A young one up to mischief? That's no good.' he kept the thought to himself, not verbalizing it out loud.

With a smile that hid most of his lower lip he turned to the younger student and gestured his head shaking, "No, I think I'll be fine. I was just having a look around." his voice was innocent so as to not pull out the fact he was slightly lying. He was not one to put a white lie to someone, but he was someone he didn't know, right?

He turned to look back at the ride for a few more seconds before letting out a sigh. The older lion started walking towards one of the food stands and then looked back at the younger student, shooting an even kinder, gentler smile towards him. "I'm gonna go get some treats, would you care to join me?" his head bobbed towards the direction of a food stand, then turned back and walked towards it. 'He'll go if he wants, he'll come if he wants to.' Quinlan placed his hands in his pockets and walked towards the stand, not making a double take to see if the kid before him would follow him or not.
