There would always be those peaceful people that existed for the good of others -boring people if she was being honest- and some people just wanted to watch the damn world burn, she was sure of it. So sure that she, Gabriela Dalca would have bet her last chocolate frogs that somebody In that very compartment was responsible for inconvenience that seemed to be her life. Once again the seventh year opened the binder, the once neatly organized pokemon cards were no longer…. Well organized. Once upon a time they had been sorted by pokedex number, but this…. It was completely random and oh so completely wrong. With a grumble the binder shut once again and was gently tossed on the ground, landing at the tips of her horrible brothers feet. “You just want to watch the damn world burn don't you?” even if the words alone were unfriendly, Gabby’s voice gave no indication of actual anger…. Just that eyebrow twitch of annoyance. I hope he washed his damn hands from all that candy, the eagle though with a frown. Would all those pokemon cards now have sticky candy residue on them? The horror.

They had been existing as hermits on the train, with the curtains drawn shut since before the train had even left from Hogwarts. Oh but the view, some students would pipe up, as if she gave a shit about some damn hills or what ever. It felt cozy like this, with only a few rays of sunshine struggling to brighten their day. It reminded her of days back home, late at night gleefully cussing out little kids and adults alike on Call of Duty. It was never enough to just kill someone's prized champion, oh no that was only the beginning as there was always shit to talk afterwards. Ah the life, and soon they would be back at it.

It seemed like the world was against the hermit life, sending the train to a screeching halt. “Maybe the driver really had to piss, but damn you gotta pump the brakes bro.” it was useless advice that probably didn't even apply to this train that ran off magic and the sheer will of merlin himself. The girls olive gaze traveled lazily to the ceiling, only listening to bits and pieces and instead rushing to the window to see for herself. It was hard to be disappointed in the world, and even the violation of her pokemon cards, when there were trolls and centaurs literally beating the shit out of each other. “Holy shit, it's like skyrim but you morphed with your horse…. Which wouldn't be so bad if it's Shadowmere, that horse takes on dragons so a troll would be like playtime.” the words came rushing out excitably, glancing towards her brother for only a moment before pressing her face against the glass to get the best look. It would be better without the window, and maybe the window could have been opened if the seventh year wasn't so fascinated by the clash of the trolls and centaurs.

It may have been impulsive, but it seemed like the most logical course of action given the circumstances. Of course it was all in the name of following directions, nothing at all to do with wanting to get a closer look at what was going on outside. Pulling away from the window, and waving a hand at her brother for the sake of safety, Gabby pulled her wand from the discarded jacket. Taking the jacket with her would have been smart but who had time for that. No there were more important things that needed saving, like pokemon cards and an annoying brother who had touched them. Priorities, at least the brunette seemed to have those. Olive eyes squinted, it was too damn bright out, what was the fucking suns problem anyway? With one hand the eagle collected her beloved -and regretfully disorganized- pokemon cards, and the other was used to point her wand at the window. “Watch out I'm about to blow this shit up.” it was one of those hold my beer types of situations that could really only go wrong. Gabby had never really been a fan of beer, it was too weak to really do anything and only resulted in having to pee every other minute.

There were many truths about the world the Dalca siblings lived in, things like how spending time in the comfort of dimly lit rooms was always more enjoyable than going outside, and how anyone who did not share their interests was clearly not as cool as they were. Another truth was that a backpack filled with books and candy fucking sucked as an improvised pillow, and Ciprian shifted uncomfortably on the seats he was laying on, trying to find a nice position in order to read his damn comic book in peace. He had never been fond of long trips, especially by train, and he would have much rather been on his bed reading than on those seats, making him wonder why they couldn’t just Floo back home or Apparate - even if he was underage and did not even know how to do the latter himself. It did not matter, for soon they were going to be home, soon he was going to forget all about Hogwarts and play videogames all day and...The sound of the binder meeting the floor interrupted his thoughts.

Ice blue eyes glanced at the floor of the compartment he shared with his sister, most particularly at the binder, and if she expected any sort of grand reaction she didn’t get one - the stick of the lollipop in his mouth moving up and down before a grin was offered at the girl. The piece of bright red candy was removed with a popping sound, a brow quirked in response to the question. “Damn right, and if I knew Ancient Greek I’d sing ‘The Sack of Ilium’ while I watch the flames. I’d make one hell of a good Nero, don’t you think? Maybe I should start wearing tunics made out of bed sheets from now on.” The boy gave back, pondering on the matter for just a second before his attention returned to reading his favourite issue of ‘Deadpool: Dark Reign’. It was often that way with the eagle, random facts tossed into thin air in the middle of conversation if he saw it fit despite knowing whoever he spoke to might have no idea what he meant. Random and incomplete facts, for he had not bothered to mention that the Iliupersis was a lost epic so there was no actual way he could have sang it, or that the myth of Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned was mostly Flavian propaganda. Details, dude, details, all of them one Google search away.

But forget about Google searches, forget about Nero and maybe even forget about Deadpool. Because soon enough Ciprian almost tumbled down from his seat the moment the train’s movement stopped, a loud “what the fuck!?” escaping him as he held onto whatever he was able to hold. His sunglasses fell down from a top of his head and onto his nose, lollipop flying away from his hand and landing onto the floor. Shame. For a second, he pouted slightly, wondering if a three second rule was applicable even in that situation, all right before he heard Gabriela’s words. Once again, he was distracted, and the boy chuckled in response. “Dude, does this thing even have breaks though?” A rhetorical question, not meant to be answered as he listened to the announcement...or at least the parts that resulted interesting and entertaining. Centaurs. Trolls. A battle between beasts. Sign him the f up. Gabriela’s excitement was matched by his own, tossing sunglasses up his head once more and glancing out the window the moment the curtains were opened despite the dreaded presence of the ever-bright Summer sun. “Yooo can you imagine a Shadowmere centaur though? That’d be creepy as heck, red eyes and black smoke and all that shit. It’d be sick.” He commented unhelpfully, the images popping into his mind only fueling his enthusiasm about the situation.

If there was any concern at all about their wellbeing the younger Ravenclaw did not show it, as he seemed full of a fascination fit of a child in the middle of a zoo, face pressed against the glass almost as if he could pass through the damn thing and walk straight into those woods. Oh, but he could, because he was a wizard and all that jazz. ’Watch out I'm about to blow this shit up.’ His gaze followed Gabriela as such words were pronounced, not a second wasted as he slid away from the window -still sitting down- and retrieving his own wand. See, there were things about beings someone’s little brother, one of them being a fondness for stealing away glory and bugging his beloved sister. “Finestra,” Ciprian pronounced, and the glass shattered as he did, raining down as thin dust that shimmered under the light of the sun. And he laughed, oh he laughed so loud, patting his sister’s back as he did. “Sorry, I had to, you should see the look on your face. Anyway, genius, I’m not supposed to use magic once we’re out there and all that, so I fully expect you to protect your little brother from all dangers, riiiight?” And once again, he pout, mockery still quite unfitting of the situation at hand and not even considering that being loud perhaps wasn’t the best idea when it came to trying to survive.

Moral of the story: please never send one of the Dalca siblings into a war, they'd probably just make gun noises and Call of Duty references the whole time.

I Am The Thunder In Your Ears

It's another lovely day in the forest surrounding the train, and our lovely Dalca siblings are no less curious than the rest of their classmates. Ciprian, our lovely jester in the duo, has decided to crack the glass in their compartment, taking the duty from the hands of his older sister as if to say, "I'm gonna let you finish, but, Ciprian Dalca is the greatest Dalca of all time!". Is it accurate? Who knows, but as the glass cracks and the sun strikes their faces we are reminded where they are. Danger lurks ahead of them (obviously), but with Ciprian's reminder that only Gabriela can use magic, our heroine-to-be is forced into the spotlight.

Ready or not, here she comes.

"YOU THERE! HALT!" Suddenly, there is a thunderous rumbling across the ground, the unmistakable sound of hooves sifting through breaking the previous silence. Our culprit, if you could call her such, is a centauride of ebony hide, locks of brunette cascading down her back and to the right of her quiver. Grabbing a single arrow and closing her left eye she readies the arrow for its release, her lips parting slowly so as to speak.

"It is a shame that you must be here, that we must be at war, but as such there will be casualties. I would say I am sorry, but do your kind not think me to be incapable of that emotion?" Aiming the first arrow suddenly at Gabriela's left shoulder she releases it, quickly grabbing for a second arrow and aiming it at Gabriela's right shoulder. It was a most barbaric assault, unwarranted certainly, but so were the dangers of being in the forest outside of the train's safety. This was not their land, it was not their home, and the world would end before their crimes went unpunished.

"It's only fair that you feel pain, for it is not me who will feel grief after!"

(ONE aggravated Centauride approaches the siblings, the ebony huntress sending an arrow spiraling in Gabriela's direction before following it with a second, somewhat larger arrow. Both arrows hit their target, the first arrow piercing her left shoulder and the second piercing her right, the centauride's pride in her archery skills evident in the following laughter. Will Ciprian be able to save his sister? Will Gabriela survive the fury of our villain? And what's Ms. Centauride even laughing at?
The choice, of course, is yours!)

Shit was about to get real. Wait, rewind, shit had been about to get real. All until a certain someone stole the thunder that had been at the tip of her tongue. The glass burst into dust, suddenly looking more like the glitter that clung to the bodies of some talented ladies instead of the remnants of a window. Oh how she wished it had been the former of the two, charging into battle with a glittered beauty on her arm would have been a tale fit for table talk. Or Skyrim, was there a hack for hookers? It was something worth researching, even if it was simply for her own amusement. Back to reality, and the endless rambling of her brother. If there had been any level of annoyance on the older eagle’s face it had melted into amusement over some thoughts trailed with glitter. A single brow rose in response to that pathetic pout. “I'd sell you to a troll for one corn chip,” dry words with a equally dry expression, “Maybe less, who knows I'm a bargain shopper.” Would she really sell him? Probably not, it was hard to replace siblings without parents. Not to mention Ciprian was one of a kind, limited edition in the best and worst of ways.

It was time to shine, like rolling up to Whiterun with the Stormcloaks and booting the Jarl from power. Weak defenses, really who did they think those sticks would keep out when it took only a few hits from a sword to knock it down. A pathetic attempt, useless really. With thoughts of shooting archers from the walls and laying rune traps for approaching troops, the older eagle secured her wand in a not so secure binder before exiting through the window. It wasn't hard really, a hand using the windowless frame as a vaulting point into the forest. The landing could have used work though, feet hitting the ground hard followed by knees slamming into the dirt as the binder slid from her grip, landing not so gently in the dirt. “Oh, don't be shy princess, come down from your tower.” playful mocking words carrying loudly from the ground as Gabby found her way back to her feet after a not so smooth landing. “Repunzal, Repun-” it was the sound of thundering hoofs and a demanding tone that rudely cut her off, olive eyes lifting from the ground as she froze. It was Shadowmere herself, come to fight the enemies that had invaded her home. The most prized fighting partner in all of Skyrim, fearlessly taking on dragons and stomping creatures into the ground. Gabby had always envied the ambition in those pixels, choosing the red-eyed beast over the magnificent Frost. It had not dawned on the girl that this version was not her ally, the words lingering in the air while Gabby stood paralyzed with a mix of fear and awe. It was not everyday that you got to meet one of your heros. It had never occurred to her that they, the students and innocent passersby, would be deemed enemies of either side.

And then she saw it, the readied arrow that was pointed directly at her. All those hours logged on Call of Duty did nothing for her, she was not as brave when there was not a controller and screen separating her from the fighting. There was no champion decked out in all the latest and greatest armour and gear to take the hits, only a scrawny nerd that had no business staring down an armed centaur. Even with the heat of the summer the air around her went cold and olive eyes dilated microseconds before the first arrow pierced through her left shoulder, the force slamming her back against the cold, unforgiving steel of the train. There was no scream of pain, only the sound of all the air leaving her lungs at once, a second arrow to the opposite shoulder sending the scrawny teen to the ground in a heap. We got a man down, the calls from Call of Duty echoed in her mind through the haze, we need a medic! So where was her damn medic? It was like staring through the screen as bullets tore into the character, trying to blink the haze away from her vision. “Retreat, retreat.” the words did not come out as forceful as she had wanted them too, her voice strained with pain.

Laughter filled the air, karma she was sure, for all the times they had laughed at the awful n00bs that would take on the Dalca siblings only to find the bitter taste of defeat. Was this what that tasted like? Like metallic and bile that rolled in with the dizziness, the way her gut would roll into knots with nauseating force. It was hard to force the haze from the corner of her eyes, to blink away the pain and tears that blurred the images before her. Olive eyes focuses on the binder, only a few feet away, so far far away when arrows protruded from your body. It was all beginning to feel surreal, like a horrible dream that would fade in the evening. Fingers twitched as she tried to force movement into an arm, it only ended in muscles locking up and fingers twisting in all the wrong direction as colorful and vibrant language filled the air. It left her gasping for breath, thoughts of how someday Shadowmere would regret this betrayal and pay for these sins, it might not have been today but someday. It was beginning to feel like a scene from a horror film, the villain laughing maniacally as someone laid writhing in pain. How fitting. “Would someone punch that bitch in the throat?” the words came out as a hiss, and to no one in particular. It probably wasn't the smartest thing to say when an armed centaur was still hanging around watching the show. Gabby had never been all that skilled as diffusing tension, her expertise laid in igniting the flames and then fanning them until the world burned. Shadowmere had earned herself the cush position as public enemy number one, bolded and underlined with a trail of exclamation points.

Obligatory language warning cause the panic is real

YOU DIED.

Red text. Black background. He could see the message so clearly before his eyes, his sister’ pained words coming as background noise as he stared at the centauress of soot coloured hide. Shadowmere. For some reason, this felt more like Dark Souls than Skyrim, perhaps because of how imminent and easy to achieve death seemed at the time. Dying as soon as you step out of the creation zone, typical Dark Souls II. How many times had he died in that damn game? How many times had he felt frustrated and left his room as soon as such a message popped up on his screen? Once, he had been so upset that he had been so upset that he had tossed his limited edition ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ Xbox controller against the wall, and it had been a fucking shame, because that controller was worth a ton. It was also his favourite, which had only doubled his frustration at the time. YOU DIED. No frustration was felt as the words appearing before his eyes that day, probably a trick played by his mind to deal with the panic of the situation at hand, all he felt was a paralyzing fear, one that was only washed away as he saw the arrow being readied and pointed straight for his pretty little face. “Shit”.

‘Ciprian Octavian Dalca! If you keep being so reckless you will die before you even graduate!’

It was his grandmother’s words that popped into his head as he ducked, his back meeting the cold wall of the train. If only their Gran could have seen them then, she would have likely never sent them to Hogwarts again. The arrow hissed, sailing through the window he had previously broken and soundly piercing the compartment’s wooden door. “Fuck....Fuck!” He muttered, still crouching down under the broken window, powdered glass crunching under his sneakers as an increasingly clammy hand held tightly onto his wand. All he could hope for was that the evil spawn of Shadowmere and the devil himself wouldn’t approach the train, but Gabriela was still out there, and she was injured, right in front of that thing. Hell, his older sister may have been annoying and all, yet she was still his sister, and he couldn’t just leave her behind and run away...even though the door was right there, so promising and so tempting, almost as if a red neon ‘escape’ sign had been hang on it. Maybe he was seeing things again. No. No. He couldn’t just escape, he had to get to Gabby, to make sure she was okay. “Fucking hell, the things I do for her.” Cautiously, he began to stand, just enough to peek through the window frame the moment the centauress began talking again. She-Shadow loved talking, did she not?

The problem was that, as much as Ciprian wanted to save his sister, he was no dauntless Gryffindor or stubborn Slytherin, and a thousand possibilities crossed his mind as he tried to figure out what was the best course of action to deal with all that. Jump out the window and cast a spell that would stop She-Shadow for long enough for them to escape? But, what spell? He went back to every Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson, to every textbook he had ever read, running scenarios one by one. They all ended with the same red text. YOU DIED. YOU DIED. YOU DIED. He was running out of time. “Oh for Merlin’s sake.” Sometimes, even smart people did stupid things when panic overtook their minds, things like jumping out that window and rolling over as he felt gravel digging into his exposed elbows and knees. Well, that would definitely bleed. And a wand was pointed at the centauress, not even sure of what spell he would cast. “Ebublio!” The eagle pronounced without thinking much.

What? Seriously, that? He had used the jinx before, many times, amused by the way it would trap spiders and small insects in those perfectly round bubbles that seemed impossible to pop by mere physical force. Once, he had even trapped someone’s cat, but never a fucking horse. He watched as the purple jet of light was emitted by his wand, accompanied by the smoke that soon turned into a bubble, indeed trapping the centauress who soon began to yell complaints as she tried to break out. Some people seemed to show their true talent under stressful situations, and apparently Ciprian was one of those. There must have been Re’em Blood in his wand, too bad he didn’t even know if such a thing was true or not. At the time, he didn’t even care, not wasting another second to look at the beast, turning to his sister who bled on the ground. Two arrows, one on each shoulder, perfectly aimed, as if she were some kind of mannequin for target practice and not a girl. Bloody She-Shadow and her bloody bow. Bloody it was indeed, scarlet liquid staining the ground and his sister’s clothes.

“Gabby...Shit, Gabby. Don’t pass out on me, okay?” The boy called out, hoping his sister hadn’t lost consciousness just yet as he grabbed her by the waist and tried drag her towards the tracks - towards the train, where two of the passenger cars met. Careful, yet hurried, as he did not know how long that bubble would keep the centauress contained. The worst part of it all? Ciprian really sucked at healing spells, and didn’t have a clue how they would get out of that mess.
