ICE SKATING!
Whether you're a seasoned skater,
or just learning how to glide,
all abilities welcome!
Lessons available for those who want to learn!

The amount of effort everybody had put into their stalls were astounding, and Shion was no exception. After being told he was in charge for the Ice Rink down at the Winter Festival in Hogsmeade, there had been a feeling of nostalgia that had lit his core like dragon's flame, and the smile on his expression was like a force of nature; it couldn't be stopped. The result was worth the hard work, as it resembled the ice rink that would pop up at Christmas back home in London. There were lights everywhere, fairy lights and curtain lights, making the area seem warm in a sharp contrast to the coolness radiating off of the ice. Shion had charmed it earlier, with the help of one of the professors, so that it would be like landing on cushions if anything over than the bewitched blades touched the frosted surface. Music was sounding from around the rink, tunes that hopefully everybody would know, and he just hoped that this would bring some smiles onto people's faces - ice skating had always been a hobby of his, along with dancing. But when a hobby could no longer be pursued because of a lack of funds... it was always sad.

Standing by the entrance to the rink in a wooden booth that almost resembled a log cabin, there were stacks of yellow skates with blue strappings behind him, organised by shoe size, adult or child, and all able to be summoned by a wave of his wand and a whisper of the, 'Accio!' spell. He had even placed Heating Charms on them, just so they could keep whoever wore them warm rather than having toes go cold and numb; that didn't make the experience enjoyable. Bundled up in his coat and jumper, and a Heating Charm cast over his clothes, Shion was bouncing on the balls of his feet as he waited for somebody - anybody - to come and skate! The sign was placed on a chalkboard sign placed a little way away from the actual area. So people could see, of course! The excitement was practically emitting off of him like body heat on a freezing cold day, and for once in his life, he hoped his mood was contagious.

______

Shion is in charge of the ICE SKATING RINK, though there are some changes! The skates are heated, there is music playing and the ice won't hurt if you fall on it! He's offering lessons to people who want to learn how to skate, but anybody and everybody is able to give it a go. Grab a pair of skates and goooooooo!

Unexpectedly, it was the thought of home that pulled Momo towards the winter festival. In the time it took to walk down to Hogsmeade, his shoes had become crusted with fresh snow. Puffs of air blossomed and wilted with each breath he took as he wandered around, exploring. The footprints of the first crowd of visitors had been smoothed and rounded out with fresh snow, so that the edges no longer cracked into the frozen earth, but made soft slopes instead. The cottages and shops of the village were lined with white, like frosting on gingerbread houses, and the cast of warm torchlight caused streaks of pale blue shadow to fall across the ground.

The fact was that Momo had meant to stop by the White Monkey (what a curious name), but the lights over the ice rink distracted him. Gathered together, the numerous strings could have outshone maybe even the Tanabata lanterns back home. Winter gave a different cast, a clear cast, to warm light, like the edges chipped cleaner in the cold. Whoever had decorated had worked hard. Cheerful music rolled leisurely towards the center of the rink. A cute chalkboard sign invited partakers, come, have fun. Skates lined up in neat colorful rows against the welcome booth. Momo bit his lip in thought. He had heard rumors, unattached, floating, casual, mysterious rumors, about charmed skates that stayed warm. Momo hadn't skated since last winter, when he went out over almost too-thin ice on the lake, convinced that the depths had frozen something to be explored, but he didn't mind. Shirakawa didn't have an ice rink, although the river solidified enough sometimes over the winter break, and neither did the out of the way village that housed his cousins' house. It was really only Hogwarts. It was really only for things like this that he had stayed.

He approached the booth in measured steps, tugged down his scarf enough to un-muffle a quiet question, and then considered the state of his hands. Despite Hakon's warnings, he had not bothered to secure gloves. The boy at the booth looked kind enough, excitable, and he thought firstly about that and secondly about how his fingers might stick to the ice if he fell. He grasped his wand and whispered a cushioning charm onto his palms, and then tilted his chin up so that the point of it was bared to the winter chill.

"Excuse me." Another cloud of mist dissipated between the soft glow of the string lights. He looked at the boy and his flushed cheeks and his open smile, and suddenly didn't know what to say. "Do you..." Momo looked steadily from the counter to the stack of yellow skates, nestled like canaries in the snow. His voice clipped away into the air in the same crystal edged way as the string lights and he ducked his head. So it was like that, after all.

______

momo is lured in by the pretty lights around the ice rink, so he approaches @Shion Suzuki with the intention of asking him about borrowing a pair of skates, but the words don't quite come out...

Lyra looked at the beautiful, blurred edges of the fairy lights through her lashes. Breath puffed from her peach lips and rose in a roiling ball of steam until it became one with the atmosphere. A burning sensation was swelling in her chest as she stared longingly at the skating rink, her feet stamping in the snow in impatience. It wasn't that the small Gryffindor was supposed to meet anyone here, but she assumed she'd be meeting up with some friends and standing around to catch sight of them seemed the easiest option. Soft music reached her warm ears, tucked under twin braids and a warm beanie atop her head. Snow and ice she was accustomed to, this was the peaceful and deadly song of her home, beckoning her clad feet to stamp against the ice with nothing more than a mere charm protecting the soles of her feet from frostbite or burning ice.

Slate blue eyes drifted over the crowds once more, hands curling around the straps of her backpack as she tried to stifle that siren's call. It wasn't long before the young witch was gliding towards the skating rink, she stood beside a taller boy. Lyra's eyes raised upwards, glancing at him as she waited for him to purchase ice skates. When he didn't she could feel her impatience growing, the delicate and nurturing side was reserved for her friends and boys not getting in the way of what she wanted to do with every fiber of her being. Yet she was not so unkind or disrespectful of her upperclassmen that she would shove him aside. Instead she held out her hand with the two coins already within the confines of her small fist. "Hi, two pairs please. Size five and a half for me and.... " Lyra looked towards the tall, pale, dark haired boy. "I don't know your size."

The boy running the rink was soft looking. In fact as she looked between the two she realized that they looked warmer with their pale skin and dark hair, their soft eyes glassy with excitement and perhaps shyness. While she might have looked discolored with her frost-white hair, the fairly lights playing off the highlights and the clouds, making it seem glacial blue depending on the angle. Her lips were curved in a mischievous smirk, slightly pouted, and her frame was small but soft. Sometimes she wondered if she resembled the ice she loved so much.

It didn't matter because as she waited for the boy beside her to answer and the one running the booth to hand them their skates, Lyra turned away and began to unlace her snow boots; ready to burst onto the ice and glide across it gracefully, unlike the way she looked like a baby seal trying to glide across cobblestone when Nova tried to teach her ballet and she just ended up flopping from tippy-toes to tippy -toes.

----
Lyra is a little impatient, she stands beside @Chikara Momomiya and waits for him to purchase his skates. When he doesn't she offers up two coins to @Shion Suzuki asking for two pairs and effectively paying for Momo's ice skates and already taking off her shoes before even receiving hers.

Oh boy! First lot of customers.

Was ‘customers’ the right word? Shion’s thoughts could not process properly as he felt the bubbles of excitement overflow like a shaken bottle of soda, spilling all over the top. Bouncing on the balls of his feet, he could not stifle the smile on his face even if he tried – his cheeks would soon start to ache if he kept this up for much longer. Wand in his hand, and spell on his lips, he smiled brightly at the boy who approached the stand, trying to seem welcoming and not-at-all intimidating, but that was rather easy, considering he only stood at five foot five inches, and this boy was already towering over him. Though, when the boy didn’t say anything, his smile faltered the slightest bit; the corners of his lips turned down if only for a second, and he took a deep breath to try and maintain the persona that was somebody friendly… maybe he just wasn’t very good at that. There was no harm in trying, though, right? Still, Shion tried to project that sense of exuberance that he had always experienced by the staff at the rink he had attended when he was just a child.

“Hey,” his voice called, hands splayed on the wooden surface of the counter and he lifted himself up onto his tiptoes – the wood felt smooth underneath his fingers, though they were quickly turning pink due to just how cold the air was and he had forgotten his gloves - but he was trying to coax this boy out of his shell, as it were. Bundled up in his coat, however, maybe he looked more like a dark blue marshmallow, if those even existed. But Shion tried to keep his head, and convey that sense of calmness he was told usually radiated off of him, though maybe that was just good days. He figured he couldn’t be very calm on a Dark Day, right? He cleared his throat slightly to fill the silence. “Do you want to skate?” The Ravenclaw offered, seeing as he was at the rink, though the words didn’t fall from his lips; was it right for Shion to assume? Maybe he just wanted to stand over here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the other stalls, though the more he thought about it, the more unlikely it seemed. “What size shoe are you?”

When the girl arrived, however, Shion was pleased with the way she seemingly just took control of the entire situation; it was sometimes a good trait to have. Reaching forward, he took the two coins from her hand into his own with a bright, ‘thank-you!’ before locking them away in the lockbox by his knee. Then, he turned to the pile of bright yellow skates behind him, rooting through to find a size five and a half in women’s (because he was certain a five and a half in women’s shoes were smaller than in men’s, right?). It took him a moment, before he withdrew them and handed them over to the other girl. “So, you get at least forty-five minutes, though you can obviously come off before then if you want! There’s no limit to how many times you can go on, and you can stay on longer as long as there is space on the rink.” What else was there? “The ice won’t hurt if you fall, and you can put in music requests!” Finally, Shion turned back to the first customer, who still hadn’t told him what size skates he wanted. “What size, again?” You couldn’t ice skate without ice skates, after all!

___

Shion hands @Lyra Saros her skates, and waits for @Chikara Momomiya to tell him what size he wants. They get at least forty-five minutes to skate, though longer if the rink is empty, and they can leave whatever time they want. Also, he is accepting music requests which can be honoured if you just tag his name and include the song name and title in bold!

One of the few memories Diamond had of his mother was standing beside an ice-skating rink during a Christmas market, his small and gloved hand in hers while watching teenagers and adults alike sliding over the ice. He had wanted to try it back then, but the soothing sound of his mother’s accent while she patted his thick, dark hair had been enough - together with the enormous cotton candy he had received afterwards. They never had the money for such activities, and Diamond had learned not to ask too much of anything. Years later he had been back at the very same Christmas market, together with the other children from the foster care home he called his home. They had shoved each other and joked, and this time, he had deliberately stayed behind because he did not want to show that he couldn’t even ice skate.

So there the lion was now, with his hands shoved in the pockets of his hooded denim jacket that was at least two sizes too big, and his teeth gnawing on the ring pierced through his lip while watching those who could actually skate. He would never know that his mother had not only refused to pay for it because they did not have the money, but also because it reminded her of those dreams her grandmother who had taken care of her had told her about: ballet, of course. Something boys like Diamond who had too much of a resemblance to sewer rats on most days could not even dream about. He had been walking past all those lights and attractions, only now noticing that one of the Christmas lights that decorated the stalls and the trees was angrily flashing insults at him, something along the lines of Worth less than whale poo! and Go home, you suck! Diamond frowned, dark brows wrinkled as he was leaning against the side fence, trying not to look suspicious.

He had never been a man of many words and was quietly waiting while leaning there, wondering if he would really dare to take a lesson on ice-skating or if it would be too much of a humiliation to dare such a thing. Most likely the latter, but he had time, right?
__
Diamond flies solo without his Robin and therefore he has weird flashbacks to his mother and other ice rinks. He suspiciously leans against the side fence and hopes to find the courage to get on the ice.

Imogen had walked through the line of stalls, figuring out how to split up the coin she had brought. There was so much set up that she was really having difficulty choosing. But then she had found the ice rink and a bright cheerful smile alighted across her visage and her feet refused to take another step past until she'd dawned some ice skates for a bit first. The tent, the lights, the music - even the smell of the ice mixing with the food smells from the stall about - it was all so nostalgic. The petite badger adored ice skating, had even since she was small, in fact she often looked forward to the winter more for ice skating than for snow.

Sometimes she wondered if she loved it more because it was available only for a seemingly short few months, unlike her other love of ballet, but in the end it didn't really matter why. It was one of the things that she had missed - besides of course seeing her family - when she chose to stay at Hogwarts this winter. She could have gone home, but her parents were flying to spend Christmas with her father's family and while she hadn't seen them in forever she really wasn't sure if she could handle such. So much had been happening here and she had actually felt better with the idea of staying - it was a conclusion that left her feeling the faintest heartbroken. Maybe she really would have to choose between these two worlds someday - however, that was not today.

Walking up to what seemed to be a line she watched the second girl take skates and head off but the boy who was first was still standing there, so she stayed a few steps back, ready to wait patiently but then realized there was another boy, leaning against the fence and watching those already on the ice.

"I'm sorry, were you waiting for skates too?" the young muggleborn asked kindly though with caution, those old habits trying to pull her head down shyly even as her tone had wavered, but she fought it, keeping her posture from folding in on itself.

The minute - no really, Dae wasn't going to even waste a second - he had heard that Shion was running an ice skating stall, he had frolicked there immediately, coins jingling merrily in his pockets. The sound kind of reminded him of sleigh bells. Kind of like Shion's laugh, too. Which was why he was heading over there. The sooner he got there, the sooner he could make a joke and Shion would giggle and the world would explode in tiny fireworks and moons and stars because Dae's best friend was quite possibly the cutest human on this planet. So soft, so cute, so tiny. Dae kind of wished they could skip past this whole festival stall thingy so that he could bounce into Shion's bed and snuggle the heck out of him. Alas.

Even worse is when he approaches the stall and there's already people there. He had hoped to be the first there, to be the first one to congratulate Shion on making something so cool and looking so adorable while doing it, but no, he was late and Shion was surrounded by pretty people who he probably liked way better than he liked Dae anyway. Briefly, Dae allowed his lower lip to punch out in a babyish pucker. It wasn't fair. Why couldn't the world just work the way he wanted it to for once in his life, huh? With a huff, the Gryffindor concealed his pouting with a smile and bounced over to his friend, leaning in to kiss his cheek, hand him a coin, and take his skates all in one motion. Very smooth, Dae, very smooth. He was practically a romance novel hero with how smooth that was. No, he was better because he hadn't added a cheesy pickup line to go along with how smooth he was.

But of course he couldn't be too smooth. He was still pouting, after all. So that was all. Just a cheek kiss. And then he turned, finding a place to sit so he could put his skates down, and catching sight of a lost puppy in the process. Perfect. "Hi Momo!" Dae bounced over to the Hufflepuff, offering him a bright, sparkly smile. "Do you wanna come skate with me? It's lots easier if you have a partner." No more looking at Shion. No more pouting about failing in his friend duties. No more caring. Just. Skating with a cute boy who probably wasn't going to care about him past this day.

Dae is a mess and flirts with @Chikara Momomiya so he doesn't have to think about flirting with @Shion Suzuki yay

Taking on the stall had been something Shion had done as a way to try and almost... remember his life before Hogwarts. It was hard, but recently, memories of his parents' faces had almost started to blur in his mind and the fact he could no longer recall his father's voice had scared him. Forgetting them had not been the reason he decided to stay at Hogwarts over the holidays - moreover, it was the fact he did not want to face their expressions because he knew deep down he figured they thought he was some sort of failure - but it seemed that was the end result anyway. Instead, it was almost like he had a new family. Dae, and Jessica, and Ozi and Emric and Leo. He had a new family, and maybe they had picked him just as much as he had picked them. Though, maybe he didn't deserve them either. Perhaps, they would all end up seeing Shion as some sort of let down, and sometimes, he didn't think he wanted that. So, he kept up the brave facade, with a bright smile and kind words, all the while pretending that nothing was going on inside his head.

"Are you two waiting for skates?" Plastered on a smile, bright, with the corners of his lips twitching downwards only slightly, as he tries to keep his positive outlook; he doesn't want to seem down when he's essentially meant to be a ball of sunshine and light. Ice-skating is supposed to be fun, and he very well can't do that if he's drowning in his own negative thoughts, so he just took a deep breath and pretended everything was ok. Shion was good at that. "If you guys wanna give me your shoe size, we can get you on the ice soon!" Fingers tapped against the wooden counter separating him from the customers, a shiver wracked his frame. Spotting Daesung was something he almost expected. Nevertheless, it made that almost fake smile real, cheeks full and eyes half-closed and he went to speak to Dae, to talk to one of his closest friends and hoping that he would keep him company for the rest of the day... but with a kiss to his cheek, he was gone, and the smile on the Japanese boy's face could not have dropped faster; was... was he not worth his atention anymore? Had he done something wrong?
______
Shion greets @Diamond Willis and @Imogen Reeve, offering to take their skate size so he can give them both a pair each. Seeing @Daesung Ryu brings a smile to his face, though he's a little upset when he's disregarded for @Chikara Momomiya.

Maisie was a surfer, mostly. She sailed, too, but cold-water surfing was where she shown the brightest when it came to athletics. Her mother had been a dancer, though, and wanted to be a figure skater before a terrible knee injury ruined the chances of that. She'd passed on everything she knew to her daughter, even though Maisie was better suited for things like speedskating instead of the grace it took to be an ice dancer.

The skates felt so strange on her feet, in a terribly uncomfortable kind of way, but she presumed that was just because it had been about two or three years since she'd actually skated. Wobbling on the razors as she made it to the edge of the ice rink, she clutched the edge of the wall, immediately regretting her decision.

You'll be fine, she told herself, pausing to take a breath. You didn't chicken out on your first wave, and that was your first. Don't chicken out on your first skate in a couple years. You've done this before. These are your first steps...

She was a bit wobbly at first, her knees alternating between locking and trembling. It was a lot like trying to find her sea legs, learning to move with the rocking motions of the ocean so as not to constantly lose her footing. Skating was different, of course, and it wasn't as if Maisie was with a friend, so if she went down, she was definitely going down hard. It took her a decent stretch of the rink before she found her stride, keeping close to the edge to stay away from the other students skating. Keeping a personal bubble was a good way to keep from falling, that much she remembered.

---

Maisie is skating by herself for the first time in a couple years! She's not out and about at the festival with friends, so anyone willing to socialize with her would be awesome c:
