Cambria could feel the sweat prickling at her scalp - some of it absorbing into her bandana, while the rest cooled her skin as it dried in the slight breeze with its before dawn chill - as she continued her motions, weight constantly bouncing between her feet, leading left and back right. Shuffling steps, face looking straight ahead at her imaginary opponent - short clipped exhales, between otherwise deep even breathing as she punched and kicked and moved within an invisibly squared-off section of the lawn. Forward step to two, jab, cross, knee strike, step back to seven, hook left, pivot, high block, forward front kick. She'd been shadowboxing for a while and it was almost the end of her morning drills before she took her run too cool down and finally headed in for a much desired shower. This was her routine every morning, which she started with some tai chi before her kickboxing drills. It had become even more important since she lost her mother, somehow becoming a way to connect to her memory and cope with her loss at the same time. She started by clearing her mind, relaxing, with the meditative practice, then with the more intensive martial art she would put the the feelings she'd internalized over the prior day to power every punch and kick and push through her routine. It was the only time that the eccentric former Thunderbird, current Gryffindor, ever looked so focused and intense.

Three times a week, including the current morning, she added light hand-weights to her entire routine, something she wouldn't do all the time - especially for the kickboxing as it increased the chances of overextending her elbow and then where would she be? - but it was good to add a little strength building occasionally. It was likely all a bit unexpected, if any knew, judging by her usual demeanor and thin, petite frame, but Cam liked it that way. Life was boring without a little surprise, after all. Roundhouse, Forward step to one, jab, stance switch, left high kick, stance switch. Each forward step was followed by the back leg by exactly the same amount, same as the back steps though reversed. With each punch, jab, cross, hook or uppercut, the opposite hand stayed up at her chin, where the moving hand returned once the action was finished - something she was paying special mind to as it was a hand-weight day. Clocking yourself in the jaw with a hand-weight was rather unpleasant - not that she'd ever done so before....that she would admit.

Elbow strike, jab, forward front kick, forward step, knee strike, roundhouse. For most of her childhood lessons, Cam had studied freestyle or international kickboxing, which didn't use elbows or knees. It was once she started at Ilvermorny that she moved to Muay Thai, but she was still rather a beginner in some of the different moves she'd learned that had been forbidden before, and her combos were a little slower when moving into the elbow and knee strikes. Not to mention she hadn't even gotten into clinches. throws, or sweeps. And she really needed to do some bag work but hadn't found a new trainer since their move. Doing just shadowboxing also made it harder to keep her distance reference consistent for her combos and she didn't work on her defensive moves as often as she should when she didn't have a partner to spar with. Jab, cross, jab, cross, hook, spinning back fist, knee strike, step back to six, sidekick. However, at the moment she wasn't as worried, she was practicing the moves regardless and it wasn't like she had an audience. And anyway, she only had two years to be stuck on "this side of the pond" as they said around here, then she could move back home.

Routine. All things constant, all things repeated, all things which granted stability, purpose and grounding. When comfortable sneakers touched the wet surface of grass, stepping on vibrantly green blades covered in morning dew, the world seemed to make sense once again. His chest would rise up and down, calm and steady with every confident step taken, as if a pianist following the tempo set for him by a metronome. He would run, run fast and run far, run through the lawns of Hogwarts and for once forget that he was at that horrible place. No concerns would fill his mind as he jogged, no issues, and most certainly no thoughts of the nightmares that had haunted him before stepping out of his dorm.

Up in the skies, the titan Helios would begin its daily journey on his fiery chariot, the sight greeting the reincarnation of Mars as the first rays of sunlight kissed his fair skin. There was little warmth to them, as the gelid weather of Scottish mornings seemed to overwhelm even the sun itself, but the Spaniard did not care, for the feeling of the light and the glimpse of its brightness were always enough to rekindle the dormant fires inside him. Because war and flame were one and the same, though the sun that burned within him was not that of Helios but of Sol Invictus, the unconquered, golden as the crown which adorned such deity's head. Oh how Mars loved the sun, how he loved it’s brightness, the comfort that came with it’s presence and the way it would vanquish all darkness.

The young God of War knew of love as much as he did of hatred, and he chose to live by the former instead of being consumed by the latter. That’s why he would run. That’s why he would train. And that’s why he would have a routine which was repeated over and over and could never be missed. Because flame is fickle and hard to control, because the warm fire of the home can quickly burn down a whole town if not watched. In training he found ways to control this fire, in boxing he found ways to vent the anger that fueled it. Anger. Anger towards himself, anger towards the world and anger towards his family. Towards the child who had once been too weak to protect anyone, the man who had taken away everything and the nightmares that disturbed his slumber.

And that’s also why he ran. To forget. To live every single day with a smile. Smile like the one which curved his lips as his turquoise gaze set on a stranger, slowing his pace in curiosity until coming to a full stop meters away from the girl, not wishing to disturb her. Avid tireur* as he was, Martín knew someone with training when he saw them, gaze marveling at the way the girl would swiftly kick and hit her invisible opponent. The form amazed him, as Savate only allowed to use of foot kicks instead of also the knees and shin, though punching had always come to him more naturally. That part was raw, instinctive, more unrefined and occurring more out of fury than out of strategy, that part of his fighting was nothing like the one before him.

He had ran enough. So, he sat on the wet grass, caring little for soaking his already partially damped clothing, lonely drops of sweat rolling down his forehead as he continue to judge the girl’s performance, as if he were the audience of a ballet and she were the fervent dancer. A sip was taken from his bottle, all before finally speaking, deciding he cared little for breaking the boxer's focus. “Nice form, I didn’t know there were people here who knew anything about kickboxing. Is that Muay Thai? I’d assume so because of the knee strikes.” Martín shrugged, tilting his head slightly as he greeted her with a smile, the words careless and calm, filled with the Castilian accent that gave away his foreign origins.

Lowering her forward leg down, hips twisting as she set her foot into the grass slightly crossing the other before her rear leg stepped back into her resting stance again and her torso returned to facing her imaginary opponent, but then it turned as she sent her gaze toward the voice that had started speaking in the middle of her side kick. And there he was, the owner of said voice, sitting in the grass and staring with a smile. What a shit, she thought as she grinned back, stance relaxing as she raised a brow. She had no clue how long he'd been there as she'd been so focused that she'd missed his approach. Cambria giggled, in that edge of madness sort of way, rather than the coy sort uttered by some, that was so common of the former Thunderbird and it sometimes set others on edge. "I'll shit you not, I was just thinking - oh, this probably looks like shit, but oh well no one's watchin' me." Seemingly unfazed by her unexpected audience besides the aforementioned irony, the lioness stepped lightly to her bag, breathing heavily as she cooled down. The energy of her workout still setting her veins aflame - she did so love that heady ride of endorphins and the soothing release of catharsis. It was almost like a drug, though most highs weren't really cathartic, they just gave you a momentary bliss of apathy - or just left you so fucked up you couldn't think straight if you tried. Both had their place, honestly. But this made her want to keep moving, pushing that blood with her racing heart.

She reached into her drawstring bag and pulled out her water bottle, taking a long pull before switching that out with her cooling towel, wiping the sheen of sweat from her face before it burned her eyes despite the bandana around her head. "Yeah, man, Muay Thai, or my piss poor attempt." She laughed again, though this was more clipped. "I spent more time practicing freestyle though, started Muay Thai when I started at Ilvermorny. But haven't found a trainer near here since I moved." Tucking the towel back in the bag she stood again, shifting her weight to one side and settling a hand at her hip. "So you enjoy that free show?" she asked with a wink and a click of her tongue, that was then punctuated with a short giggle at herself. "Anyway, I'm not really from here, if that wasn't painfully obvious, only started here in September, so maybe I'm the only one." That made her grin again as she jabbed her thumbs toward her chest with the last words.

"Name's Cambria Raines," she paused raising an eyebrow but didn't actually give him any time to respond. "No one in this fucking place is into the house music scene, what the fuck - well, okay, I met one person." The lioness crossed her arms over her chest and sighed dramatically though the smirk at her lips ruined the effect. "DJ and Ilvermorny reject, so, you got a name, handsome?"
